DVI is one of the most common cable types for connecting computer monitors, there are 3 main variants, DVI-D which is digital only, DVI-I which is analogue and digital and DVI-A which is analogue only.
DVI Cables can also support single or dual links, for most applications only single link is required although there is no harm in using a dual link cable. A DVI-I cable has 4 extra pins around the horizontal pin to carry the analogue signal, therefore DVI-I cables will not plug into DVI-D sockets that don't have these 4 pin holes.
